My reasons are mainly frustration. I keep getting interrupted in the middle of whatever I'm doing and so it just piles up(and/or I forget something) So I'm sorry.
On to work!!
I never finished my post on Comic-Con '09 or AFO '09 (part of my frustration[I was in the middle of it 4 times before I let it go]). So I will put them here. Beware they make this journal long.
40th Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA
There were tons of things to do and *Jianre-M and I tried to do a lot of it. Blue/Green screen pictures were very popular this year at the booths. Some of the stuff we/I got:
We also stopped by a couple of our fav online comic booths like the Keenspot booth where we talked to some of the writers and artists that are involved in 'Marry Me', 'Last Blood', 'Dreamless', 'No Need For Bushido', etc and the booth for Girl Genius. I think we even got a couple pictures in.
Jianre and I also stalked the Viz booth. Great people there! We were there everyday; at least 3 or 4 times. They had this claw machine that they stuffed with Naruto plushies. Umm... Naruto, Kakashi, Neji, Shikamaru, Gaara, and --- I think that was all. I could be missing one.
But the second day we were in line to try to get a plushie and it came up to Jianre's turn. Now know that between the two of us we had tried this thing like 18 times over the two first days. She really wanted Kakashi, but only succeeded in putting him right out on top. Then it was my turn. I'm like 'this guys mine!!! HAHAHA!!' so I carefully position the claw and drop it. I got him!! it took him up and over the out bin and opened the claw but he didn't drop!!!!!!! Then it took him back out to the main bin and he fell back in.
So the next day we were there again. Of course right?
Jianre did it again. Right out on top begging me to get him. 'This time, You are MINE' I spend my time wisely looking and positioning the claw and then I drop it..... and it brings up a Kakashi
And A NARUTO!!! People started to cheer but I put up my hands to stop them as cheering seems to make the plushies drop early. The claw hit the top, it moved over the drop bin, and they were IN!!! Then we all started cheering(and in my case jumping). And the Viz people were laughing and saying that it was karma or something.
But the last day was my favorite. I went to see the Aspen booth. I loved Michael Turner's stuff and followed it from when it was published by topcow(or was it Image?). It was horrible when he died. So since it was my first Comic-con I had to go say hi and maybe ask the people in the booth to sign a paper or something to commemorate. The people there were very nice and fun. I had several spazz attacks talking to the artists. They teased me mercilessly at times but it was great!
I'll post up the pic of what I ended up with soon! Promise.
10th Anime Festival Orlando in Orlando, FL
So we get to Florida, and as were getting to our gate I look out the window and it's like GREEN and really landscapy in a way that you want to paint it type thing(I'm weird I know) and were then hit by the humidity. KA POW - Kitsune was there to pick us up and the hotel she got us was awesome. This is the first time I got to really speak to her and she was really interesting.
A little downside was discovered the next morning when Jianre was getting ready. Turns out that Southwest messed up some of her stuff. 9 or something of her Copic markers were dried out 'cause somehow the caps came off. The plastic case they were in was broken, the top shattered, and just to make it interesting all but one corner piece was missing.
So we get there, find pre-registration, and there is a little problem finding our badges but they are promptly found and we get intro'd to the new Artist Alley organizer. We actually got a whole table together (right in front of the pre-reg window a little ways from the bulk of AA) and so set up our stuff. Originally I wasn't going to sell much of my stuff since my jewelry wasn't allowed; but after talking to the staff it turns out that I could sell it if I wanted. In the end I think our buttons really carried us in sales.
The staff at AFO are some of the most friendly people I have come in contact with. They even asked us if we wanted to put anything in the art show, which I did since I still had the displays from Comic-Con. They also checked up with us throughout the whole con to make sure everything was cool and to chat.
Jianre and I loved this convention. There was interesting panels (I attended a panel on Kimono and learned a lot about them. Such as the time frame = to what was used to make the Kimono and what techniques were used. Also the different types for male and female. Both Jianre and I was ecstatic that they had a good number of Fullmetal Alchemist voice actors there. She even drew a group shot of everyone attending AFO and got all the signatures to match!! It was awesome. I think the only things we bought was three of Vic Mignogna's CDs. He's really great and all three of us enjoyed his concert together. Vic's a character in more ways than one.
We both are really looking forward to going next year and hopefully we will be able to do better and still have the fun we did this year.
